News and Events
After many years of fundraising and ongoing restoration, Liberty Hall finally opened its doors again. Hosted in collaboration with an exhibition of Odd Fellow regalia by the Pembroke-based Greenhorns, the 2022 Liberty Hall Open House featured a talk by Crystal Hitchings of the Sunrise County Economic Council. Outlining the plans being developed for a National Heritage Area designation for Washington County, she catalyzed a lively discussion with audience members about the implications of such a designation for community-based initiatives.
The turnout for the Open House was unexpectedly strong. Many visitors had long been intrigued by Liberty Hall, having seen visible progress on its exterior restoration but not hitherto had a chance to see its magnificent interior and consider its future potential as a community resource.
Despite a lack of basic facilities in Liberty Hall, the success of the 2022 Open House served as a reminder of the building’s possibilities for modest, pop-up events during the summer months. These kinds of events are critical to fostering community involvement in the continuing restoration efforts.
